Overview:
Gin Rummy is a card game that is usually played with a standard 52 card deck, excluding the jokers. It is recommended to use two decks to ensure smooth gameplay, with one player dealing the cards while the other shuffles.
Card Ranking:
The cards are ranked in the following order, from highest to lowest: King (K), Queen (Q), Jack (J), 10, 9, 8, 7, 6, 5, 4, 3, 2, and Ace. The picture cards (King, Queen, Jack) carry a value of 10 points each, while the numerical cards have a value corresponding to their respective pips.
Objective:
The goal of the game is for each player to create sets or runs of three or more cards in their hand, accumulating over 100 points before their opponent does so.
Dealing:
- The deck is spread out on the table and each player draws a card.
- The player with the highest card becomes the first dealer and decides where to sit.
- The dealer then proceeds to deal ten cards to each player one by one. The remaining cards are left in the middle of the table as the stock deck.
- To begin the discard pile, the top card of the stock deck is placed face up next to it.
- In subsequent games, the winner of the previous game takes on the role of the dealer.
